Manusher Jonno arranged a seminar on Right to Information at BRAC Center Inn on 5 September 2005. From its working experience MJ realized that there is a strong need to take coordinating and facilitating role on local initiatives among organizations, civil society groups, lawyers, academicians and media personalities who are directly or indirectly working in establishing access to information as a right in broader area. Right to Information is considered as fundamental human right, though some recognize it as development tool to promote good governance. Hence, access to information has two dimensions, which is equally significant to realize other rights. Since MJ is working to promote Human Rights and Good Governance, it felt the need to organize seminar on this particular issue to get an idea how information right is perceived in Bangladesh from different stakeholders. Another purpose of the seminar was to identify the local initiatives giving emphasis on good practices. A paper titled Situational Analysis of Right to Information in Bangladesh: Challenges and Realities prepared by MJ team was presented in the seminar.
