Brief history of the Organization:
USHA-Unity for Social and Human Action came to exist in 1985. The main thrust of the organization is to challenge and address the existing unequal relations between women and men and thereby enhance the process of an unbiased development and gender justice. USHA, then replicated the concept to other NGOs located at different geographical areas of Bangladesh and accordingly a Gender Relations and Development Forum (GDF) was initiated to disseminate and promote the concept of gender equality. At present there are 13 fora consisting of 275 NGOs. This network has crossed the territorial boundary and formed a South Asian Gender Network (SAGN) comprised of Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Srilanka. USHA has been playing a role of the secretariat of GDF and SAGN.

Project Objective:
1. To develop entrepreneurship among women credit borrowers and sensitize women & men of entrepreneurs’ families and community on gender and violence issues 2.To enable social groups and institutions for protecting women human rights and mould public opinion for resisting VAW. 3. To catalyze victim of violence to get access to justice
Expected Outcome:
1. Women entrepreneurs are economically self supported on being gender sensitive and increased family consumption and subsistence level and thus reduce VAW and burden of poverty. 2. Social groups and institutions are well prepared and played proactive and facilitative role to protect women human rights and resist VAW which ultimately paved the way for reduce poverty. 3.Widened scope of victim women to get protection of law & required health services. 2880 cross section of people participated, increased accessibility of victims to duty bearer of police station, court and health department.
Project Goal: To shape up a sustainable mechanism for ensuring economic empowerment and protecting human rights of women.
Major Activity: Policy formulation and implementation - Review and formulation of Micro Credit Regulatory rules from Gender perspective

Training: -

C.Community mobilization: -400 courtyard assemblies were organized where participated 20839 female credit borrowers and their male counterparts from 25 GDF partner organizations. -10 workshops on Gender in Micro credit were organized in 5 GDF areas. 1057 cross section of people participated in the workshops. -In favour of women’s economic empowerment 35 Social Support Groups will be formed in 5 GDF areas. -10 public gathering will be organized in the field of 25 partner organizations. About 3500 cross section of people from grass roots will be attended the workshops.

- Advocacy with Service Delivery Institutions: 96 Open House Day with police, public prosecutors and health service provider.
