Brief history of the Organization:
- Shamunnay is a non-profit research organization of resourceful women and men working for long in the arena of research, development and culture. It is engaged in quantitative and qualitative research work, training, communication and advocacy, cultural learning and developmental activities. Shamunnay was created as an innovative body in September 1994, under Article 14 of MoA of Unnayan Shamannay, its parent organization, which is incorporated under the Companies Act 1913 (section 26) with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies. Shamunnay is also registered with the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Bangladesh (registration number Dha 07438).

- Shamunnay denotes progression or advancement, not in the narrow sense, but in the wider context of all the aspects of a living society and human race¾reckoning with all the quantifiable and qualitative actions a society carries out. The members of Shamunnay have been striving to invigorate and further strengthen private sector initiatives for socio-economic and cultural development of Bangladesh through a concerted grassroots approach.

- Shamunnay was conceived in the light of a felt need for an alternative socio-cultural trend, a trend which encompasses the struggle for survival thriving on the creative talent of the people. This trend does not seek to depict the country as poverty-ridden. Rather it seeks to uphold the country as a free and resilient entity, demonstrating creativity and innovation that is inherent in its rich cultural legacy. It attempts to delve into this ingenious force, establish a linkage of the well-endowed heritage to the present and understand the future trend of development in a finer context.

- Shamunnay offers a wide range of services from project conception to completion including identifying areas of intervention, conducting qualitative and quantitative field research, monitoring, impact evaluation, feasibility study, conducting and analyzing surveys. It offers its services for designing, conducting and analyzing participatory research and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA). It has gained reputation and trust for its highly professional standard of work. One of its fields of specialization is research and study through PR method and techniques. In most of its researches/studies/impact evaluations Shamunnay complements the surveys through PRAs and focuses on the perception of the program-participants and different sections of the rural society.

- Shamunnay also provides training on quantitative and qualitative research. It facilitates in developing communication materials and designing programme documents.
