| Brief history of the Organization: |
The Society for People's Education, Empowerment and Development Trust (Speed Trust) is involved in development activities for socio-economic development and community empowerment of disadvantaged, marginalised and the poor, especially for women, adolescent girl and children in the southern coastal part of Bangladesh. It started operation in 1999 in Barisal city with a view to organising policy advocacy and open dialogues of different stakeholders on burning issues.
Speed Trust also works with different stakeholders like civil society, association, local government representatives, government institution, local journalist and students for promoting rights, strengthening local governance, democratic transparency and communication technologies. |
| Project Objective: |
- To conscientise local people, especially the Char dwellers, on the roles and responsibilities of the local government institutions and duty-bearers.
- To ensure that the Char dwellers in the form of people’s organisations are claiming and getting services equitably from the Union Parishad and Upazila service-providing institutions.
- To engage civil society members as pressure group to persuade the adoption of Char policies through a political movement.
