Project Title: Strengthening Capacity of Women and Children to Protest Domestic Violance(PDV)

Brief history of the Organization:
Samaj Kallyan Sangstha (SKS) is a non-government organization established in 1987 & registered by NGO Affairs Bureau.In 1992 it started development work with the poor people through socio-economic programs. SKS is the joint effort of a few local self-devoted young men and women, social workers from various academic disciplines. For improving socio-economic status of rural vulnerable and underprivileged poor people SKS implementing development interventions in Gaibandha and Bogra district and expanding programs in Kurigram, Rangpur, Jaipurhat district.


Project Objective:
Objectives Objective-1: Organize and active project participants and community people to protect and protest domestic violence. Objective-2: Responsive the local level institutions to improve the services for VAW victims.
Expected Outcome:
- - 219 Family Clubs (FC) are self-functional and able to protect domestic violence within their FC members. - 55% of Family Club (FC) members are involved with IGA and their family income increased 25% from existing. - 60% community peoples know about domestic violence issue and actively participating in protective and prevention measures. - FC leaders/members have participated in 150 Shalish in village and played active role. - 192 FC leaders/members have participated in different social action committee at village/union level. - 65% FCs have built linkage with service providing institution and alliances. - 1314 no. of FC members have established their access on VGD/VGF/other govt. safety-net intervention. - 1800 no. of FC members have promoted their access on govt. health care services - 150 no. of FC members have received legal aid services. - 200 no. of FC members have established their access on govt. Khash land. - 65% stakeholders and service providing institutions are positively responded on protest domestic violence
Project Goal: * Reduce incidents of domestic violence from poor families in river basin areas of Gaibandha district.
Major Activity: * Family Club Meeting (weekly) 219 FCs have formed under the project. The FC will meet each week in a fixed place. They will discuss on women rights related issues. They will plan and go on action based on their need. Field trainer and volunteer will facilitate the FC meeting. The aim of the family club is to learn the different type of domestic violence issues and they will play a great role to protest domestic violence in their working area. First they make a yearly action plan and according to the action plan, they implement the activities. When the family club faces any domestic violence in their working area, they jointly protest the domestic violence. They solve the problem through mediation. The group will document the meeting decision on group regulation book.

* Spouse Forum Meeting (monthly): Each spouse forum has formed by 25 male members whose are the husbands of family club members. They hold a meeting in every month and write down the decision in the regulation. They also assist the family club members to protest the domestic violence in the working area. The members of the spouse forum help the family club members to communicate with the service provider institutions. Where there is a family club meeting, there is also a spouse forum meeting. Besides the monthly meeting spouse will join with FC meeting monthly basis.

* Family disputr resolution through salish/mediation

Legal aid service for victim-Legal aid services should require if any incident happen in the community. The project will provide legal aid support to the victims and provide facilitation support so that s/he can get justice.
