Brief history of the Organization:
Southern Gonounnyan Samity (SGS), a non-profit and non-political secular non-govt. voluntary organization, working to improve lives and livelihoods of poor, vulnerable disadvantaged and marginalized people in Bangladesh for more than two decades. It launched the development journey in 1983.

SGS is registered with the NGO affairs Bureau numbered as FDR No. DSW/FDO/R-143 dated on 07-06-1983. It is also registered with the Ministry of Social Welfare numbered as F-0240, dated 27-01-1983 and Family Planning Department numbered as No. 07 dated 23-11-1982.

Project Objective:
1. A community monitoring system is established and maintained by the people to asses the performance of the union parishad in implementing social initiatives. 2. Poor people and their organizations are better equipped with knowledge and skills to access their entitlements from local government. 3. Capacity of the selected union parishad in implementing social initiatives is substantially enhanced.

Major Activity: - Organize poor and marginal farmers - Awareness rising on service entitlements from agriculture, fisheries, livestock, youth development, social welfare, BSCIC and micro finance organization. - Development of farmers club. - Capacity building of farmers club. - Formation of central farmers club and quarterly meeting of farmers club - Formation (formation and operational) of a watch committee with the representation of civil society and farmers club. - Formation of club - Training on Participatory planning for agriculture and fisheries department officials - Training on Wetland Ecological Agriculture options

- Consultative planning workshop at Upazila for developing Annual Operation plan of agriculture and Fisheries Department. - Workshop with UPs for incorporating the livelihood development planning issues into Action Plan of UPs.

- Conduct Social Audit by the Watch Committee. - Workshop with Journalists. - Seminar on present situation of Agricultural problems & prospects in Gopalgonj District. - Public hearing in between Agriculture Officers and farmers.
