Brief history of the Organization:
JS is a non-profitable and non-government development organization, which has been working for the empowerment and emancipation of rural poor people, especially destitute women and children. It established in February 02, 1983 with the active initiative of local social workers especially women and like minded philanthropists at Kotalipara upazilla under Gopalgonj district. JS has been working long 21 years in Kotalipara for overall socio-economic development of the poor and disadvantaged people.
Project Objective:
Objectives: o Create community based sustainable mechanism to reduce domestic violence. o Increase access to services of women and violence victims at service delivery institutions and local Govt.
Expected Outcome:
- 1. The community people, especially the women, youths organized in various groups, such as SVGs, Youth clubs, VAWPCs are more responsive and active in relation to women rights, rights violation. Students and their parents, as well as, teachers of schools in the working area are well sensitized on gender issues and are more pro-active to uphold women rights. UP chairmen, Women members, school teachers, GOB personals, village mach-makers, marriage registers, religious leaders, health staff, media persons are more aware on protection of violence against women. As a sustainable impact or result of their increased awareness and positive response, violation and discrimination against women is decreased among the target community people, especially among the (50%) women. 2. Participation of community people, specially the women is increased (targeted 20%) in decision making in family and community life. They are more aware and in a mental position to raise their voice against any discrimination and VAW in the family and community. Their leadership quality also has been enhanced. Thus they are now active to react or response against any unexpected attitude and practice against women, especially regarding decision making in the family and community. Their proactive role will protect their rights and human dignity in the family and community life. Their enhance position in decision making also will have positive impact to attain the millennium development goal and also will have impact to attain PRSP goal. 3, The community people, especially the women, youths are now organized in various groups, such as SVGs, Youth Clubs, VAWPCs are more responsive against any VAW. Along with them, Members of Nari Nirzatan Protirodh Committee (NNPC) and UP as expected are now more active in playing their role against VAW. Victims and victim families have been provided with necessary counseling to face it. They also have to access to justice through ADR or remedial service by legal aid providers. In short, a process of social mobilization and response initiated through project activities will have positive impact to protect the women in the family and community; thus will contribute to reduce VAW in the target community with in the project period. 4. Information is the source and strength for any action or education. JS will have all the events of VAW or any violation of women rights documented /recorded with JS through family visit, hospital and other service center monitoring- for follow up future reference. Through the monitoring visit, JS created an indirect pressure on the concern authority to provide proper treatment to any VAW victims, and also to any people seeking their service. Thus through the monitoring activities, rights of the community people to get proper service from GOB will be ensured.
Project Goal: - Women are free from violence and discrimination at family level in the project area.
Major Activity: -Conduct monthly meetings to initiate community response on VAW, gender discrimination, domestic violence, early marriage, dowry and women rights by community people. (2544 meetings/ 106g x 24m) for 1378 social volunteers and member of (88 SVG, 18 VAW PC) 106 local groups at 78 villages of 12 union under Kotalipara Upazilla .

-Conduct visit to victim families to protest / protect violence and to initiate remedial decision/steps through mediation and counseling. At least 1800 visits (5 visits x 15 staff x 24m, including follow up ) per month by UM, CM & Volunteers.

-Organize 8 Coordination meetings with (8x25) 200 persons of Thana and Hospital authority to strengthen relation to ensure their service to the community people, especially for the victims of any torture or violence.

-Conduct salish on DVAW victims
