| Brief history of the Organization: |
JJS is an environmental and social development campaigner working in the south-west region of Bangladesh. JJS has an experience of 20 years to deal with pro-poor issues in the southern coastal region of Bangladesh, most of which are poor occupational groups, vulnerable women & children and socially excluded people. From its inception since 1985 at Rupsha sub-district of Khulna, JJS continuously trying to address the contemporary poverty discourse of the locality as well as trying to implement different strategic options to reduce poverty. JJS started its journey as a volunteer organization and now turned into a potential rights and advocacy platform for the poor, marginal and socially excluded people. It is also incorporating civil society and other social elements to work together in the battle against poverty. JJS vision is a confident, total responsive and equitable society and mission is to mobilize people towards participatory environment, pro-poor & responsive governance, environment friendly livelihood, gender and children sensitive society where people can get access and control over resources, exercise basic human rights, reduce their marginality and vulnerability, and raise voice against structural poverty and non-participatory development initiatives. |
| Project Objective: |
1. A community monitoring system is established and maintained by the people to asses the performance of the union parishad in implementing social initiatives.
2. Poor people and their organizations are better equipped with knowledge and skills to access their entitlements from local government.
3. Capacity of the selected union parishad in implementing social initiatives is substantially enhanced. |
| Expected Outcome: |
1. A community monitoring mechanism is in place for monitoring of the social initiatives of Union Parishad.
2. People are aware and confident to get access to the services of Union Parishad.
3. The Union Parishads are skilled and responsive to the needs of the poor in their areas.
