| Brief history of the Organization: |
Gandhi Ashram Trust (GAT) is a philanthropic development organization working at Greater Noakhali. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi¡¦s visit in 1947, it has applied the Gandhian philosophy of rural development, peace and social harmony to uplift living conditions of the rural poor, especially women, in the district.
After Independence of Bangladesh, with the emergence of Gandhi Ashram Trust in 1975, there are a shift in the vision and mission of the Trust. Currently, the main focus of Gandhi Ashram Trust is the development of better standards of living, both material and eternal. Presently, GAT is working with 50,000 poorest families in 6 Upazillas of Greater Noakhali through 6 different projects. |
| Project Objective: |
1. Mobilize community people to participate in local government development activities, demanding their entitlements and protest human rights violation issues.
2. Enhance capacity of local government bodies for better management of local resources and make responsive towards poor people¡¦s demands
3. Create opportunities for women elected members of LGIs to play their roles effectively

„« Pro-poor and decentralization supportive existing policies adopted and implemented

„« Improved local justice system (Salish and Village court)
„« Poor and marginalized people gain more access to government and community resources (khash land, pond/Canal or other water bodies, Tree plantation, Common field/place, etc)
„« Poor and vulnerable household¡¦s income increased and income erosion decreased
