Project Title: Strengthening Good Governance in Primary schools in Bangladesh to ensure Quality Education(SGGPS)

Brief history of the Organization:
Founded in 1958 with the aim to develop social and spiritual life of the entire human community, DAM works with basic thrust on poverty alleviation and socio-economic empowerment of the poor, specially the disadvantaged.

DAM functions at the grassroots level, as well as at national and international levels.
Project Objective:
“Active participation of community and other stakeholders in good governance of primary education system is achieved in the project areas”.
Expected Outcome:
1. Enrollment and retention of the children excluded for different reasons will be increased 2. Parents, community and other stakeholders will be sensitized and would play supportive role for good governance and quality education; 3. Proactive roles and monitoring capacities of institutions such as CBOs, UPs, schools, SMCs, PTAs, UP standing committees on Education and UZs will be increased for responsive school governance towards quality education; 4. Alliance and Networking at local level and those are linked with regional and central level will be established for integration and replication; 5. Slow learners of the schools will be on fast track with better performance 6. Lessons learned documented and disseminated for further advocacy.
Project Goal: “Establish a community led learning environment in the primary schools in the selected hard to reach areas of Bangladesh for good governance and quality education.”
Major Activity: 1. Organize issue based and good practice dissemination seminar, sharing meetings and advocacy. 2. Formation and functioning of alliance and Networking and functioning at local levels and those are linked to regional and central level for integration and replication of the process in other schools and areas. 3. Launch advocacy campaign to create access of people/citizens to the existing services 4. Introduction of social audit instrument like report card methods, budget tracking, citizen charter, social mapping for monitoring the school governance system. 5. Social movement and solidarity activities to create broader ownership for education within the community. 6. Livelihood linkage for the poor parents.

1. Strengthening networking and linkage with government , LGI, UP standing committee on education and other community institutions for strengthening their role 2. Organize people’s forum/Ganokendra and support them for playing pro-active roles 3. Introduce local level planning, resource mobilization, implementation, monitoring and documentation process of the progress and achievements. 4. Activate/strengthen the SMC/PTA/UP Standing committee and facilitate their pro-active role for school improvement

1. Provide training and other capacity building initiatives for various community committees 2. Introduce Report Card methods for monitoring the governance system of the schools 3. Organize, activate and strengthen the SMC, PTA, UP standing committees on education, and other CBOs and local institutions 4. Networking meeting with various Union and Upazilla committees 5. Facilitate the process of monitoring the school governance by community people using various social audit tools 6. Organize sharing meetings to disseminate the tracking and monitoring findings and take appropriate action steps.
