Brief history of the Organization:
The Centre for Disability in Development (CDD) is a non-governmental Bangladeshi development organisation established in 1996. CDD is working with the concept of Community Approaches to Handicap in Development (CAHD) that aims for equality of persons with disabilities through advocating their rights and integration of disability issues into mainstream development activities.
CDD works in partnership with existing development organisations to extend services to persons with disabilities in the community.CDD organises training and workshops to develop better understanding of government bodies on disability issues.
Project Objective:
-Increasing awareness and sensitization of different stakeholders (students, teachers, NGOs, SHGs, Civil Society, government, community people) on the rights of persons with disabilities in accordance to the Disability Welfare Act 2001.
Expected Outcome:
-An enabling environment in the educational institutions is in place for male and female students with disabilities. -Persons with disabilities, have direct access to poverty reduction means (declared government benefits, employment opportunities at NGOs, education, etc) - National and 10 Local groups of people with disabilities and their families will be organized as ‘Ambassadors for rights of persons with disabilities’ in 6 districts and will have the necessary information, tools and skills to promote and advocate for the rights of the people with disabilities and are capable of claiming their rights in the local areas.
Project Goal: To increase knowledge on ‘Disability Welfare Act-2001’ to promote rights of persons with disabilities on ‘education, information and communication’ as policy consideration issues.’
Major Activity: -Training for project advocacy & rights officers along with concerned staffs.

-Disability Orientation training workshop with University students that will form 'University Disability Friends Club'& teachers

- Training for Local Ambassadors /communication'and partner organization

-Training for Government Social Service Officers on Disability Issues, Rights of disabled people and their role
