Project Title: Protecting & Establishing Rights on Land of Adivisis Communities of Greater Mymensingh

Brief history of the Organization:
Caritas Bangladesh was founded in 1967 as the eastern branch of erstwhile Pakistan. In 1971, it was known as Christian Organization for Relief and Rehabilitation (CORR). In 1976, CORR was renamed as Caritas Bangladesh in order to avoid the implications of being only for Christians. Caritas philosophy believes in primacy of the human person and in the goodness of mankind as well as development of alternative power structure of the powerless. Caritas believes that there are potentials among the powerless and that all alternative power structures must be created that favours development of the powerless. It has also a mandate to put special emphasis on the development of women in every sphere of life.
Project Objective:
1. Create a sustainable movement to ensure the rights of Adivasi peoples through strengthening different forums/committees/traditional organizations of the Adivasi Communities. 2. To support and facilitate the Adivasi people of the project area to retain their lands within the community. 3. To increase household productivity of the program participants through sustainable use of land.
Expected Outcome:
-50% of the total mortgaged land released -100% of released lands are under cultivation by the landowners -Annual income increased by 20% of 80% beneficiaries -70% beneficiaries preserved all land documents (including papers of land taxes). -20% land disputes reduced due to legal support. -Adivasi Lawyers Forum facilitating space for claiming rights of the program participants. -30% of trained Adivasi leaders including women (5%) involved in undertaking advocacy campaigns/initiatives
Project Goal: Dignity and well-being of the Adivasi community people of the project area under greater Mymensingh improved.
Major Activity: Identify different false cases regarding lands and provide legal assistance and financial support to extreme poor program participants for releasing mortgaged lands; land papers execution and legal support to deal with different cases to retain their lands.Initiate an Adivasi Lawyers Forum to foster institutionalization in facilitating advocacy and lobbying activities for protection and promotion of human rights of the Adivasi community people.

Hold meeting, seminar and workshop to create awareness about human rights and access to information and to find out opportunities for cooperation with the other like-minded organizations/partners on advocacy issues

Provide awareness training and courtyard discussion related to the importance of preservation of land documents and papers.

Provide input support to the program participants to undertake alternative income generation activities (IGAs).
