| Brief history of the Organization: |
Bandarban Disabled Peoples’ Organization to Development (Bandarban-DPOD) was established on the 7th June 2001 in collaboration of Bangladesh Protibandhi Kallyan Sommity (BPKS). BPKS provided organizational and technical support for Bandarban-DPOD at the initial three years for a project implementation under a innovative approach Persons with disabilities Self Initiative to Development (PSID). In 2003 Bandarban-DPOD was localized by BPKS with necessary change and adoptions to make it independent organization in gaining registration from the department of social services as local non government disabled peoples’ organization. |
| Project Objective: |
01. To ensure detection and prevention of disabilities and the provision of health support.
02. To promote enrollment of Children with Disabilities (CWDs) in general education system.
03. To ensure a safe and healthy environment for all including PWDs.
04. To improve socio-economic status of PWDs and their families and develop and promote local institution of PWDs (grassroots self-help groups)

| Expected Outcome: |
(a) Rights, Equal opportunities and Participation of persons with disabilities in nation building activities will be improved and tendency to feel PWDs as burden are reduced in the family as well as in the society.
(b) The target beneficiaries are able to achieve their fundamental and social right and dignity.
(c) Local government and local community leaders are aware of the disability issue and the rights of Persons With Disabilities.
(d) Local education & school authorities are interested to enroll CWDs in school.
(e) Self-reliance tendency and capacity of PWDs will be improved.
(f) 20 PWDs achieved employment opportunities in the working area.
(g) Disablement of 4(four) PWDs reduced through curative surgery and 20 PWDs will be mobility oriented and be able to reduce their functional limitation.
(h) Parents of PWDs and PWDs family members will be aware of rights of PWDs and their needs and a good initiative created among them.
(i) Self-help group members (PWDs) are able to bring about changes in their life-style.
(j) Attitudinal barriers are reduced rather than before.
(k) Safe drinking water & sanitation system for PWDs including family members & community people are developed.
Overall sense of solidarity of the vulnerable community people will be improved and change of life-style will be created.
